Wool Wall
Wool Wall was created in during 2023 in collaboration with Cara Brameld and the knitting group that meets at Fudges Wool Shop, Cullompton. It formed part of the Creative Cullompton High Street Action Zone programme funded by Historic England and resulted in a ceramic installation on the exterior wall of Cullompton Baptist Church.
Crochet Squares
Crochet squares were designed and created by Cara and the knitting group using heavy weight cotton yarn.
Rolling
The squares were pressed into the surfaces of stoneware tiles using a rolling pin.
Peeling Back
The crochet squares were carefully peeled back to reveal the impressed patters.
Slow Drying
The trimmed tiles were air dried very slowly on a porous surface to prevent warping.
Installing
After glazing, the completed tile panel was mounted on the Baptist Church wall in the High Street by a professional tiler.
Wool Wall Theme
The wool theme connects with Cullompton's long historic connection with wool farming and the wool industry.
