Both these objects were made by throwing a steep sided bowl form, which was then turned over and what had been the bottom slightly ​compressed.

​

Thorns and fins were then added to the sides. The volcanic glazes on the form with thorns contrasts with the smoothness of the porcelain thorns. The metallic, rusty glazes on the form with fins adds to its mechanical nature suggested by the propeller-like fins.
