Ibstock Bricks very kindly allowed me to work on the Gateway of Dreams in their Cattybrook factory.
The two towers of the Gateway were each built in five layers that could be taken apart for firing and transport. They were built of overlapping clay slabs with an grid-like internal supporting structure. In this way the overall weight of the towers could be kept within reasonable bounds.Each tower took around 10 days to construct.
